• Tablet Support — enjoy Apple Music with an experience designed for a wider range of Android devices
• Performance improvements for images and audio playback
• Various bug fixes
If you want to try it out, you can download the latest beta release from APKMirror.

Call Screen was arguably the most impressive feature Google debuted at the Pixel 3 launch event. Google's AI can answer the phone and ask what the purpose of the call is, providing an on-screen transcript of the conversation so you can decide if you want to talk to them or not.

Since 2014, Chrome has featured a delightful little time waster that kicks in when your device doesn't have internet access. It's a game featuring a dinosaur that hops over cacti (and, eventually, other dinosaurs), in which your score increases as you progress through a pixelated desert. Until recently, that score was lost when you stopped playing, but as of Chrome version 72, it's finally saved — and it even syncs between your devices.

The "camera hole" looks set to replace the more traditional notch in the future, but we still don't really know what the concept will actually end up looking like in person. At least, we didn't until today: Sparrow News seems to have gotten its hands on real-life (if slightly potato) photos and video of Lenovo's Z5S, which features such a circular cutout. And it looks pretty snazzy.
With Huawei (and potentially Samsung) considering hole-style camera cutouts in upcoming phones, odds are at least one phone in the near future is going to sport one.

The latest update to the Gboard app is now out, but it doesn't appear to be adding any features in this update, or at least not yet. A teardown points to some enhancements to some features we've either seen in the past or expect to go live in the near future, including tweaks to the Clipboard Manager, an option to delete search history, follow-ups related to voice typing, and of course, a ton of new languages and localized keyboards.

Instagram Stories let you send disappearing messages to your friends, but until now, you had to send them to all your friends. That's changing now, though, as Instagram has announced a new feature that lets you pare your audience for certain Stories down to just a select subset of your followers.
The feature is called Close Friends. You can add and remove followers from the list at any time; they won't know.

Reddit has made some substantial changes in the last couple of years with the launch of an official app, a new site design, and (most recently) a new system for "gilding" posts. Now, the official Android app is getting a related update. You can now make in-app purchases to get Reddit Coins—up to $100 worth of them.
The IAPs are the main change here, but there are other tweaks in this version.

Whether it's a sound bar or an elaborate surround sound setup, a lot of people's best speakers are attached to their TVs. A lot of people also have Amazon Music, whether or not they realize it; the service comes free with Amazon Prime. Owners of Android TV hardware will soon be able to use those speakers to listen to that music, as a Play Store listing for a TV version of Amazon Music has appeared.

For the last few years (since Google launched and the effectively killed Allo), Hangouts has been slowly dying. Bits of it have been broken off, and others were outright killed. According to a report by 9to5Google's Stephen Hall, its days are very literally numbered. The service is expected to shutter in the not-so-far-off year 2020.
9to5Google doesn't name its sources, but this wouldn't be an unexpected development. With Allo effectively dead (though technically still functional), it was surprising that Google kept Hangouts around as long as it did.

If you're like me, the majority of your interactions with the Google Assistant are questions about the weather. What's it like now? What'll it be like tomorrow? Is it raining in Seattle? Right now, though, such questions are going unanswered, as Google seems to be having trouble delivering weather information for many.
We're getting reports that the Assistant is unable to deliver current weather information or forecasts through most avenues. Asking an Assistant-equipped speaker returns an error message ("Sorry, I don't understand"), while asking on a phone will show a temperature of zero degrees and a suggestion to check weather.com.

Late autumn is always a good time for bargains, especially if you're looking for a smartphone on the cheap. And while it's hardly a top performer, at a sale price of just $168.29 on Amazon, Sony's Xperia L2 certainly fits the budget bill.
The L2 sports eight- and 13-megapixel cameras on its front and back sides, respectively, as well as 32 gigs of internal storage, expandable via MicroSD cards of up to 256 gigabytes.

In a recent Gram Magazine interview with the European head of product marketing for Niantic, Anne Beuttenmüller revealed that Pokémon GO is finally going to get a player-versus-player mechanic, and we should expect to see this new content before the year is out. Few details were provided, so it's anyone's guess as to how it will all work.

Music streaming is a popular use for smart speakers, but the particular speaker you have dictates which services you have access to. Amazon's speakers are getting better in that regard in the near future, as the company has announced that Apple Music will be available on Echo devices later this year.
Availability of Apple Music is a fairly big deal, as it was previously only streaming on Apple's pricey HomePod speakers.

The device we currently know as the "NVIDIA SHIELD" is not the first one to carry the name. That honor goes to the handheld device launched in 2013, later renamed SHIELD Portable. After that came the SHIELD Tablet, and finally the SHIELD Android TV in 2015. It was not the only way to get Android TV, but NVIDIA's box is the only one that had any staying power. Three years on, this device has gotten 20 updates across three major Android versions. I can't think of another Android device that offers so much value after more than three years of use.

Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls: Blades will now be released in early 2019. Back in June our own Corbin Davenport went hands-on with the title on the show floor of E3, which is where Todd Howard had teased the original release date of fall 2018. With the current kerfuffle surrounding Bethesda's Fallout 76, it would appear that it's probably not in the best interest of the company to publish a free-to-play game that takes advantage of the fan-favorite Elder Scrolls license, potentially explaining this unexpected delay.

We love dissecting APKs here on Android Police — our own Cody spends his entire day going through all of Google's apps looking for the tiniest of changes that could hint at an upcoming feature, so we appreciate a lot the work others do when they look at apps that we don't have the time/manpower to. Take Jane Manchun Wong, for example. She's been leaking Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram features for a while, and her latest dip into Spotify has yielded a lot of interesting discoveries.

Yesterday, Plex announced some huge additions and changes to the music side of your media server. These were so important/awesome that I had to get this out to you in case you hadn't seen it yet. Among many things, Plex has added a deep integration with Tidal, some massive mobile player overhauls, an improved shuffle system, discoverability options, and more.
Of course, Plex is most excited about the partnership with music streaming service Tidal.

The most visited webpage on the internet is, without the shadow of a doubt, Google.com. It is thus the most interesting advertising avenue and Google is best placed to know this. However, it has kept the page's pristine white look, only supplementing it with a doodle every now and then, and new About and Store shortcuts in a few countries. But from time to time, Google uses the power of its homepage to advertise its own products.

We often take a few features of our smartphones for granted. Those of you who live in the US usually get access to all the cool new things first, followed by a few countries like the UK, France, Germany, Canada, and Australia. Living in Lebanon and writing about tech, this feature inequality struggle is part of my everyday life, but there's one privilege I have now that I've started taking for granted too — the basic of all basics: purchasing apps on the Play Store.

Ikea's Trådfri (I just discovered that my keyboard has this weird å character) line-up is one of the cheapest smart home lighting systems, costing only a few bucks per light bulb on average. It started out with limited bulb options, but has expanded to offer light panels, drivers for LED lights, and has just added smart outlets as well. These were announced a while back, but weren't available to buy until recently.

Arlo, a recently spun-off Netgear business, has been making wireless security cameras for several years. We've covered the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 a lot because they're far and away the best fully wireless cameras on the market, but the current offerings top out at 1080p. That changes with the upcoming Arlo Ultra. These cameras, expected in early 2019, will sport 4K HDR video, a spotlight, color night vision, and more.

Stories. Historically, we've loved reading them and telling them, but the word has evolved a lot in the past years to encompass moments shared throughout the day. Snapchat, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, they all have their version of Stories, and now YouTube has officially launched its own.
YouTube began toying with the idea when it rolled out Reels to the Community tab, but it wasn't until a few months ago that we started seeing Stories from select channels popping up in the app.

Google Home Hub has some neat integrations with various smart home products. You can, for example, use it to adjust thermostats, or see who's at the front door. Google-owned Nest just so happens to make both smart thermostats and smart doorbells, among other things — and right now, you can save 80 bucks by buying a Hub with select Nest products on the Google Store.
