Google Maps’ futuristic AR walking navigation is now in testing by Level 5+ Local Guides
Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal got a hands-on with Google Maps' upcoming artificial reality-based walking navigation feature. Local Guides were said to be getting access to this as well, though very few had actually gotten the feature. AR navigation has now rolled out to Local Guides level 5 and up, and it looks pretty cool.
You can see how the AR navigation works in the video above. By default, the AR and camera view will only show up when you're holding your phone up, and it'll go back to the regular view when you put it down.

LineageOS is one of the most popular custom Android ROMs available, with over two million active installations. The project officially ended support for the 14.1 (Android 7.1) branch a few days ago, in preparation for LineageOS 16. Razer Phone 2 camera app update adds 60fps recording option
Shortly after news of Pie incoming for the Razer Phone 2, the company pushed out an update to the camera app that enables the option for 60 frames per second video recording.
Here's the changelog:
- Support for 60FPS video recording has been added! Record your favorite moments with gloriously smooth framerates. Android P update required to unlock this feature.
And that's about it. Assuming you updated to Pie – which, as you'll note, is required for this – you should find this waiting for you in the Play Store, or you can sideload it after getting it from APK Mirror.

Android 9 Pie finally arrives for the US Huawei Mate 10 Pro
Late last week, I turned on my Mate 10 Pro out of a cynical curiosity to see if Huawei had pushed out Pie/EMUI 9 yet. Much to my surprise, the phone alerted me to an update waiting to be downloaded and installed. Turns out, it was the very Pie one I'd been hoping for. Since then, it appears that it's getting a wider release, though an exact time frame is difficult to pin down.

It's already been four months since Google unveiled its own smart display, the Home Hub. When it was discovered that the Home Hub would still be capable of Duo video calls despite not having a camera, Google reached out to let us know that the Home Hub also supports audio calls over Duo. Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus go up for pre-order in the US, starting at $350
Sony's recently-announced Xperia 10 and 10 Plus, best known as those new mid-rangers with ridiculously tall screens, have gone up for pre-order in the United States at Amazon, B&H, and Best Buy. The Xperia 10 comes in at $349.99, and the larger Xperia 10 Plus will retail for $429.99. Both will be released on March 18th.

Ubiquitilink may allow regular phones to receive signals from satellites
Satellite phones are typically bulky and expensive, since they require specialized hardware for sending communications into Earth orbit. However, it may be possible in the near future for regular smartphones to connect to telecommunications satellites, using technology demonstrated by Ubiquitilink Inc.
During a briefing at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Ubiquitilink claimed that a collection of satellites in orbit (acting as cell towers) could give a low-bandwidth connection to any phone in the world.

Chrome experimenting with 'back/forward cache' that speeds up web browsing
When you navigate to a new page in a web browser, the previous page you had open is usually discarded from your computer's memory. There might be cached images and other data left over, but if you press back, your browser has to load most of the page again. Google Chrome's developers are experimenting with a new 'back/forward cache' that would make loading the previous page instant.
In a post on the Google Developers site, Chrome engineering manager Addy Osmani wrote, "we are exploring a new back/forward cache to cache pages in-memory (preserving JavaScript & DOM state) when the user navigates away.

Bixby button remapping is rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9
Samsung really, really wants you to use Bixby. That's why it has included a physical button to access its woefully underpowered assistant on most phones since the Galaxy S8. Samsung has traditionally tried to prevent remapping that button, but the Galaxy S10 changed that. The official Bixby remapping feature from that phone is now spreading to Samsung's other devices.
So far, owners of both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 have seen the new Bixby functionality appear on their phones.

One of the more interesting new phones shown off at Mobile World Congress was the Nokia 9 PureView, a five-camera flagship intended to trade blows with the Pixel 3 and Galaxy S10. USB will soon be twice as fast and twice as confusing
USB 3.1 still isn't incredibly common on consumer electronics, but the USB Implementers Forum is looking to the future. The group has formerly announced the new USB 3.2 standard, which not only promises to be twice as fast as USB 3.1 (in come cases), but will also be far more confusing.
Starting with the non-confusing part, USB 3.2 will support a new 20 Gb/s transfer speed — twice as fast as USB 3.0, but still half the maximum speed of Thunderbolt 3.

The iPhone X started a trend of companies using dark wallpapers to hide (or at least obscure) screen notches. It has been clear since the first press renders leaked that Samsung is also using this tactic to make the Galaxy S10's hole-punch camera less of an eyesore. But as it turns out, you can actually embrace the display hole.
Matt B (@Mattcabb) on Twitter has posted a series of wallpaper mockups, showing how the double camera sensor on the S10+ looks remarkably like the faces of Johnny 5 (from the 1986 film Short Circuit), a NASA Mars rover, and Bender from Futurama.
