At the end of March, it was announced that Apple had acquired popular weather app Dark Sky and would be shutting off access to Android users on July 1. Since then, we've seen a fake Dark Sky app pop up and then get put down in the Play Store. We get it: people are passionate about their weather apps. So, as people head back out into the world for whatever reason they may have, we're updating our list of Andorid alternatives to include a few of our readers' choices.

It's been a month and change since Google launched its first true wireless earbuds. When I first got my hands on the Pixel Buds, I was struck by their fit and finish, comfort, and sound quality, but nagging problems like audible interference at low volumes and short battery life left me feeling lukewarm on the whole.

Between Samsung’s fully loaded OneUI and the largely no-frills stock interface, OxygenOS sits right in the middle with its more judicious take on Android. OnePlus’ software skin doesn’t feel overstuffed with pointless features and manages to hit the right note — one of the reasons many of us would pick it any day over something as cluttered as MIUI. But OxygenOS still looks to be all over the place, with many of its handy tricks scattered across the Settings app, buried deep under layers of sub-sections — keeping them out of sight.

Welcome to the roundup of the new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. Today I have the sequel to the idle RPG Soda Dungeon, a generic gacha game from Ubisoft, and the sequel to the popular platformer Super Fowlst 2. So without further ado, here are the new and notable Android games released during the week of May 25th, 2020.

While some of the features are relatively easy to locate (like gestures), there are some less obvious ones you might not have even known were included, because they're a bit hidden away in Samsung's notoriously labyrinthine menus.

OnePlus initially claimed that the color filter camera and associated Photochrom color mode for the OnePlus 8 Pro, accused of allowing people to see through clothing, would only be disabled in China pending an undefined fix. However, an Oxygen OS update disabling the feature globally was "inadvertently" rolled out. OnePlus has since pulled the update, according to the folks at Oxygen Updater, and a subsequent OTA will re-enable the feature.

Google's smartwatch operating system, then called Android Wear, debuted six years ago on the LG G Watch. Since then, the platform has had ups and downs, just like the full-blown Android OS it was based on. Some hardware manufacturers gave up on Wear OS, while others came in and embraced it.
Today, Wear OS is in an interesting place. It has received very few meaningful software improvements over the past year, while new watches have continued to be released quarter after quarter.

Google finally opened Stadia to the public back in April, allowing anyone living in supported regions to try Stadia Pro for two months, free of charge. With June quickly approaching, any players who jumped onto the Stadia bandwagon on public launch day will soon be paying $9.99 a month for Google's cloud gaming service, unless they opt out. Here's how to cancel your subscription before your free trial of Stadia Pro expires.

With seemingly no fanfare at all, Google has updated the Android 11 page on its developer site with news about the Beta release for the next big OS version. It's coming on June 3, and there will be a special launch show on YouTube to make up for the lack of Google I/O this year.

If you're out of the loop, you can click through above to our prior coverage for more details, but the short version is that one of the cameras included with the OnePlus 8 Pro can see at least partly into the infrared spectrum, though it was only used for a single thing: a Photochrom color filter mode.

While you'd think that the world's webcam supply chain would have caught up with demand from the many millions of folks working from home by now, you'd be wrong. Logitech is still sold out of every model it makes online, and questionable cheap webcams popping up here and there on Amazon probably aren't a wise investment. But you do have a professional webcam at home, you just may have forgotten about it: your smartphone.
